Feb 20th- 2 weeks old today (or 31 weeks) (or -9 weeks)!

Today was full of exciting news for both of the girls. Grandpa Ed came to meet the girls for the first time. He needed to recover from a cold before going into the NICU.

They are doing wonderfully with their feedings. Lydia is at 17 cc's every 3 hours and will be up to eating 24 cc's by tomorrow night. Teagan is eating 18 cc's every 3 hours and will reach her maxiumum by tomorrow as well. The nurses calculate how much food they can have based on their weight. I still can't believe those tiny tummies can hold so much, but the girls seem very happy after eating!

Because the feedings are going so well, Teagan is no longer using an IV. She looked much happier and had more mobility, I am not sure more mobility is a good thing! Lydia will stop using her IV by the end of the day tomorrow. I asked about the caffine they take as a stimulant for their hearts and breathing and the nurse told me they would just give the babies some coffee! She was kidding of course, but an oral version of the medication is available and the babies can have that instead of the medication through their IVs.The nurses said that now that the IVs are gone, the girls might get to move into the same isolette. They will both need to be off CPAPs though.

Teagan tried breathing without the CPAP this morning, but wasn't quite ready yet. Lydia seems to be doing okay without her CPAP, but if she has any trouble breathing, she will use it again. Mike, the respitory therapist, and his team are constantly monitoring the girls breathing and equipment.

It will be very exciting for us to reunite the girls. We can't help but think that they must miss each other after sharing such close quarters for 7 months. The nurses also reminded us to make sure our nursery is ready here at home, they can't estimate when the girls will be discharged and babies sometime do surprising things... as if we hadn't learned that lesson yet!
